Our Story
The idea behind The ZenPet Vets was born from our own stories.
Dr. Naimark and her husband adopted a pitbull mix, Finnegan, from an animal shelter in the southern United States in 2016. As is the story for many rescue animals, Finn’s history prior to adoption was unknown. For many years, he has struggled with behavioral challenges- severe separation anxiety, destructive behavior, dog reactivity, and fear-based aggression surrounding veterinary care. The most basic healthcare needs including vaccination, blood draws, and even nail trims quickly became impossible without heavy sedation. His behavioral challenges have made navigating his healthcare very difficult. These challenges have also inspired the desire to find a solution, not only for Finn, but for the numerous pets and their owners who struggle with similar obstacles.

Similarly, Dr. Sancak and her family adopted a 6-year-old Siberian cat, Mocha, in 2019. Prior to her adoption by the Sancak family, Mocha struggled with a medical condition and was hospitalized several times, with each hospital visit resulting in development of anxiety and reactive behavior. Her behavioral symptoms worsened her medical condition, and it became a vicious cycle. Despite her naturally sweet disposition, Mocha became frightened and depressed. Once at the Sancak home, she spent her first two months there in hiding. Gradually she has learned to trust the Sancak family, her behavioral challenges have evolved, and her medical condition has resolved. Dr. Sancak’s journey with Mocha sparked her interest in creating a safe environment for pets struggling with similar challenges.
